Windows XP media player and media center, can be controlled with the
multimedia keys on most new multimedia keyboards nowadays.

However iTunes on windows only can be controlled if it's in the foreground.
The tool at this forum topic solves that problem.

You will need to login to the forum to be able to download it, but it's worth
it.
